Store coupons claimed with a tap, and the price that assumes you tapped
A coupon is an offer until someone claims it, and then it belongs to that account. The after-coupon price on a card assumes the claim has happened.
A coupon belongs to whoever claimed it
A listing may offer store or item coupons, with conditions such as a minimum spend, participating items, expiry or an account limit. Read the actual offer before claiming it. We have not measured what proportion of Chinese listings offers coupons.
Until it is claimed, a coupon is an offer. After it is claimed, it is property of one account. That is the whole reason the sort sends store coupons to the ask lane: the purchaser can claim one for the buying account, but whether they do, and whether the saving is passed to your order, is a practice question for the agent. The archived CNFans pages say nothing on it, so ask before you pay.
The after-coupon price, as the rules define it
Taobao's platform price management rules (revised 20 September 2024, read on 19 October 2026) set out the prices a listing can show. The set price is what the seller lists; when a promotion is running, the promotion price takes its place, and for any chosen option there is only one. The after-coupon or after-discount price 券后/折后价 is that figure minus the valid benefits the current shopper can take straight from the current page and use on this item, with offers that need other items to qualify left out.
Two further sentences in the same rules carry the whole point of this site. The after-coupon price includes personal assets such as coins and red packets, and it is calculated automatically and refreshed in real time on the item page. In other words, the deal price is computed for whoever is looking. The rules also forbid sellers from printing after-coupon or final prices into the main photo, precisely because a fixed figure cannot be true for everyone.
A catalog card that shows an after-coupon figure is showing the third rung for one account at one moment.
The agent's order is built on the rung its own account meets, which is usually the second unless it holds the same coupons.
Item coupons, category coupons and red packets
The same rules list what can sit inside an after-coupon price: membership discounts, store coupons, item coupons, discounts set through third-party tools, category coupons 品类券, coin deductions and red packets, including threshold red packets. Category coupons are issued by the platform for a whole kind of goods during campaigns, and the shop pays part of them.
For your order, the useful split is between coupons that any buyer can claim from the page and coupons that arrive in a wallet some other way. The first kind is worth asking about: if the button is on the listing, the purchaser can press it too. The second kind, pushed to particular accounts or earned through activity, stays with those accounts.
Coupons that need a step first
Some coupons are not on the button at all. Taobao's rules list offers that need a step first and require sellers to state the step: a coupon you get by messaging customer service, a promoter's coupon reached through a referral link, a coupon unlocked by sharing, a paid coupon, a coupon found only in a campaign hall, a live-room coupon, credit that needs a top-up, and trade-in subsidies.
These are the hardest to carry into an agent order, because each step happens in one account at one time. Ask about them only when the step is something the purchaser could reasonably do in the moment, such as a coupon customer service hands out on request. Anything that needs sharing, topping up or a promoter's link is best treated as not part of your price.
Asking the purchaser about a coupon
A good coupon question is specific and gives a fallback. Quote the coupon as the listing shows it, say which option you want, and say what should happen if it cannot be used.
- "The listing shows a store coupon 店铺券 with a minimum spend. Will you claim it for this order? If it cannot be used, buy at the set price."
- "The search card showed an after-coupon price. I understand it may not apply to your account. Please confirm the price before buying."
- "If a coupon is used on my item, will the saving appear on my order?"
The last question is the one people forget. Even when a coupon is claimed, how the saving is shared between the agent and the customer is a matter of the agent's own practice, and the archived CNFans pages never described it.
